Best Ink Saving Printers 2014

Did you know that printer ink can cost more than champagne, ounce for ounce? Many people don't even consider the cost of the ink when they're purchasing a new printer. Some of the cheapest printers available have the most expensive ink and some of the most expensive printers (such as laser printers) are very efficient with ink management. Cheaper inkjet printers can often have very expensive ink cartridges compared to some of the more expensive printer models. So when you're buying your printer, keep in mind that even if you're paying more up front, you may be saving money in the long run.

So how can you determine the cost of ink per page for your new printer? Unfortunately, this information isn't usually readily available when you buy a printer. That's why we've compiled this list of some of the best Ink saving printers of the year!

Some of these printers are new, others may be a bit older, but still purchasable online for a great price. If a printer has "automatic duplexing" as a feature, this means it can do automatic double-sided printing.

Ink-Saving Tip!

One tip for keeping the cost of refilling ink down is to keep your printer plugged in, even if you're not using it. Your printer will use up ink for standard maintenance (such as cleaning the print heads). This has to be done more frequently if you don't print very often and it can waste a lot of ink in the process. Even if you don't print very often, try to keep your printer plugged in. The cost of electricity used while your printer is in stand-by mode is much less than the cost of the ink that's wasted if you unplug your printer. Also, if you've got a lot of documents to print, it's often better to print them all at once, rather than spacing them throughout the week.

I hope you find this information helpful for keeping your printing costs down. Do you have any other great ink-saving tips? Leave them in the comments below!

*Duplex- Functions with duplex can utilize both sides of the page.

**ADF or Automatic Document Feeder- Multiple pages can be scanned or copied without having to manually enter them into the machine.

^ppm or Pages per Minute-Measurement of printing speed.

Hi, I have the Epson Wf 2650 and it suck ink like crazy. It also doesn't work with outside ink. Am I doing something wrong?

Another ink-saving tip I like to use is to print in "draft" mode whenever possible. You can find it in the print dialog in "preferences." It makes the copy a little lighter but saves a bunch in ink over the long haul.

Nobody mentioned that ink cartridges dry up without being used at all. I add a cartridge and might not print for a long time. It will actually dry up without ever being used.
